Even though I bleed Navy & Orange, I have a hard time getting excited over this play. Peppers knew exactly what he was doing when he drove Stafford’s shoulder into the ground like that and poof…there goes Detroit’s season. I guess J Pep was trying to make up for an unnecessary roughness ‘blow to the head’ penalty he incurred on a 3rd down earlier in the game, but to me, this was one was just as unnecessary. The ball was already gone, and Peppers could have eased up a bit, but he ruined this poor kid’s season out of spite or anger or just plain dickheadery. If you think maybe he couldn’t stop, then you have no idea just how talented an athlete Julius Peppers really is. Unfortunately, Peppers seems to be drinking the Urlacher Kool-Aid a bit too much and is out to prove how tough he is, rather than how great a football player he is.
Urlacher’s nothing but a liability of the field these days. He does have a rare ability to motivate his teammates, but usually in the wrong ways and all too often, a sad display like this is the result. Oh well, the Bears got the win and that’s all that matters, right?
