The first thing you notice here is that The Hawk sings it correctly, with honor and reverence. Without even looking down at the words, he sings “Take me out to the crowd…” That’s someone who listened and learned the proper way to do things from none other than Harry Caray himself. You can always tell a Wrigley poser (coughcoughjohncusackcough) when they sing “Take me out with the crowd…” Just another tip from me to you on how to spot a worthy Stretch singer.
I also added the interview part below, even though it’s long, for two reasons: 1. There is no classier gentleman in the game today. In a few years, Andre will be known affectionately and accurately as the game’s ‘elder statesman’. I’m sure by then I’ll be back working in baseball so whenever I introduce him at an event, I’ll make sure to include that designation. Just for you.
And 2nd, The Hawk actually breaks a little news here when he says Barry Bonds ‘stole’ 2 MVP’s from Albert Pujols. And he didn’t meant stole in the way you honorably steal second base or a laptop from the airport or something. He means “stealing” due to overt, premeditated CHEATING by Bonds specifically. Dawson sure as heck knows who was doing what. I’m just pissed Len Kasper didn’t ask a question about Sammy Sosa. Now that would have been real news.
UPDATE: OK, so this goddamn HD video took me all freaking day to upload to YouTube and I just realized the beginning is screwed up. I’ll fix it, but it might be a few hours. If you can live with seeing how I rewound the beginning to get a clean edit, then I will be forever grateful. If you can’t, then go LeBron yourself.
