How can any major league ballplayer, much less one making $19,000,000 in 2010, consistently give so little goddamn effort? Byrd can be forgiven. At least he was trying. If you look closely, as Byrd is running into the sure tag at third, he looks over his shoulder a couple of times to see if Soriano is running.
Of course, the next batter, Geo Soto, got a base hit to right, so if Soriano would have even given nominal effort to get to second initially, he would have scored on Soto’s hit. Then a double-play out of Castro ends the inning. Un-freaking-real.
Luckily, the Pirates are throwing lefty Dana Eveland who is really, let’s be honest, not very good.
