The incomparable profootballtalk.com is reporting (via wpxi.com) that Santonio Holmes was escorted off an airplane Thursday night for being what authorities are describing as a “disruptive passenger.”
Well, a quick check of Holmes’ Twitter feed shows he was on a plane headed from Pittsburgh to New Jersey last night. Since Holmes claims he was the only person on the flight wearing Jets’ green & white…on a flight originating in Pittsburgh, no less…one wonders if some loyal Steelers fan didn’t get all up in his grill about effectively throwing his new colors in the face of loyal fans who have been repeatedly sucker-punched this offseason. Maybe, just maybe, the former Super Bowl MVP didn’t handle criticism all that well?
I dunno, this is all pure speculation on my part but it doesn’t seem like that huge of a stretch, given Holmes’ recent (and historic) transgressions. (profootballtalk)
UPDATE: Disregard. Cynicism got the best of me again. ESPN is now reporting that Holmes was removed for refusing to turn off his iPod. Which is bullshit enough, quite frankly. And, then I heard he punched an old lady. But you know, in his defense, sometimes if he has a pre-iPod Touch, like I do…those suckers are hard to turn off. Sometimes you don’t notice that the thing pops back on and it drains the whole goddamn charge. And then its dead and you have to listen to a ‘personal chauffer’ yap about Bobby Hull all the way to Wrigley Field on Opening Day.
DOUBLE UPDATE: So, now its coming out that Holmes wasn’t escorted off the plane at all. He was asked a couple of times to turn off his iPod, which he did, but he left his earbuds in so the snotty stewardess called the cops who met the plane at the gate, met with Holmes, and filed no charges. This is why I don’t usually post stuff that’s not confirmed. ‘Cause someone will link to it on an ESPN board and I will have to continually update so as not to look like even more of a jackass than usual. And WTF is up with these freaking stewardesses and the absurd amount of power they now have? They called the goddamn cops because he didn’t remove his fucking earbuds? They do shit like this because they are mostly miserable punts (especially the dude stews) who want to get back at a world who is generally traveling somewhere to have fun…and they need to stand in the way whenever legally possible.
