I mean, c’mon. We have Tyler Colvin itching to win NL Rookie of the Year and we’re gonna have to put up with this utter nonsense for a-whole-nother entire season? Have you noticed lately that the newspaper beat guys have been stressing how well-liked Soriano is in the clubhouse? Pushing a guy’s popularity is usually a last-ditch effort to help turn the tide of public opinion and maybe even save his starting spot.
If Soriano was just hitting like he was supposed to, his ‘defense’ would get sloughed off, like it often does with Manny Ramirez. But this Soriano unfortunately hits more like Manny Trillo.
How many more Soriano/Bradley type disasters can Jim Hendry’s career possibly survive?
Full disclosure: Just as I’m typing this, Soriano drove in a run with a double in the 8th. That ball needed to be a homer. He did drive the ball into the left field corner, possibly hoping the Astros left fielder would misplay it as horribly as Soriano himself would, but alas…the guy barehanded the ball, making a terrific play.
