Irene Folstrom was Tiger Woods’ college girlfriend and today on golf.com writes about her fond memories of their time together.
She begins:
Tiger Woods was my boyfriend for a year and a half while we were both undergraduates at Stanford. I've never spoken to the press about him; I'm not coming forward now for money or to advance any pathetic showbiz aspirations, but merely to stick up for a friend. I haven't seen Tiger since the late ’90s, but I know who he is at his core because we were together during some of his most formative years. He was so human and cared so much about other people and the world around him. This may surprise some people, but Tiger was a great boyfriend.
Blah, blah, blah. It goes on like that about how great Tiger’s parents are/were and how Tiger dreamed or making a difference beyond golf which, in my opinion, he hasn’t really done yet. He has done a lot for golf, by getting kids involved and I’m sure there are some scholarships involved somewhere, but not much beyond the sport, at least not to my knowledge.
I remember distinctly about 15 years ago when Earl Woods said his son Tiger would affect the world on a level not seen since Gandhi. Was the Mahatma known for his penchant for Vegas cocktail bimbettes and B-level porn stars? I can’t remember.
Expect to see more positive articles like this as we approach Tiger’s inevitable return. After all, it’s not like golf.com has a vested interest in Tiger’s popularity or anything. (golf.com)
