I always had a deep affinity for Coach Bowden and now that he is retiring, college football will be just that much more vanilla. Guys like Urban Meyer are terrific coaches and great role models, but can’t hold a candle to Bobby when it comes down to good old fashioned character. Bowden was part movie star, part politician and part preacher all rolled into one dude with a whistle around his neck and a twinkle in his eye.
It may come out that Bowden was forced into a decision he wasn’t prepared to make for himself, but the pain will soon subside and the coach we all loved will soon be free to dote on his grandkids and let a grateful Seminole nation, for once, return the favor.
So long, Bobby. Seeya in the Hall of Fame.
Here are a few videos reminding us why we loved the man.
And if that whole retirement thing doesn’t work out, he can always sell what would be the single most amazing grill of all time.
