It’s kinda hard to see in this video, but notice Brady Quinn slashing in from the right to hit Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs below the knees after throwing an interception this past Monday night.
Why would Quinn go low on a defensive player after he threw a pick? It’s not like he was trying to make the tackle or anything. He almost seems to be targeting Suggs specifically.
The Ravens are understandably pissed as Suggs has a slight MCL tear and will miss considerable playing time.
The usually mild-mannered Ray Lewis surprisingly had a comment on the situation:
“Heck yeah, it was a cheap shot, when you’re running down and you’re looking at the quarterback going at somebody’s knees who doesn’t even have the ball,” Lewis said. “I want to see if he gets the same fine I got or even higher. Now this man [Suggs] is out four or five weeks because of some baloney like that.”
Suggs’ agent, Gary Wichard, obviously had some more pointed observations:
“That cat should be fined as much as anybody is fined that hits the quarterback,” Wichard said, according to the report. “That’s ridiculous. I don’t understand what he was trying to do. It was blatant. It’s absolutely criminal. It’s about as nasty as it gets.
“The guy had total control and went right for his knee. You can’t call that an accident. It was premeditated. The quarterback zeroed in on Terrell’s knee. That’s absurd. The ball carrier was right in front of him.”
Quinn is probably in real trouble the next time he has to play against the Ravens. When he eventually demands a trade away from the trainwreck known as the Browns, he might want to avoid going to Pittsburgh or Cincy. (espn)
