After a half dozen years or so of going with the questionable contrarian approach to calling an NFL football game, it seems as if ESPN has finally gotten the broadcast mix right in the booth. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, it very well may be the best MNF booth of all time.
Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski make a fantastic double team of HOF QB knowledge and Super Bowl winning head coaching insight. Of course, there is nothing ever bad to say about Mike Tirico. He is simply the best in the business who brings joy, humor and intelligent commentary to any sport he covers.
Gruden is a tour de force, and when compared to the hack he replaced, looks like perhaps the greatest football analyst of all time. If Gruden were to stay in the booth, he would easily become the ‘next John Madden’ and reap the myriad benefits worthy of that lineage. But he’ll probably take some crappy job like Jacksonville or Notre Dame and we will have to live with a doofus like Trent Dilfer or Tim Hasselbeck in the near future. Sigh.
