Former world #1 Martina Hingis has announced she will not make a return to competitive tennis, as if anyone were wondering.
You may recall that Hingis was banned by the WTA (and other international sporting organizations) for two years after testing positive for cocaine in 2007. Hingis denies any wrongdoing whatsoever, of course…but so did Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson while they were alive. Denials are like elbows, everyone has two and you can’t fit ‘em in your ear. (that didn’t make much sense, I apologize)
“If I had won the four Grand Slam tournaments (she won five), maybe I would have continued,” she said. “But I was on downslope. And I was suspended for two years, and that was it.”
“I’ve got a nice house, my four horses,” Hingis said. “On the tour, I had no life.”
A collective groan just went up in the offices of TMZ.
Also not returning to the pro tennis circuit is Anna Kournikova. (that reference is purely for the hit count. But I guess no one really Googles Kourny anymore, huh? Ahhh…those were the days when a nice Kournikova mention was good for a hundred thousand page views…) (yahoo)
