Reports have surfaced that the St. Louis Cardinals have scheduled a Monday morning press conference to announce that Tony La Russa has agreed to a 1 year contract with a mutual option for 2011. That’s great, really. Slum Louis deserves a self hating drunk like La Russa as a manager for a little while longer.
However, the best part of this story is, now that the Cardinals fired well-respected hitting coach Hal McRae last week, La Russa is negotiating with Mark McGwire to be McRae’s replacement.
You have got to be kidding me. Is it Christmas already?
Mark McGwire was technically a terrible hitter. Remember 1991 when McGwire, in his prime, hit a trifling .201? Remember ten years later when he hit .187? Was Dave Kingman unavailable? Was Rush Limbaugh unavailable?
How is McGwire going to help Albert Pujols battle a mid-season slump? “Here’s what you have to do, Al…just swing a little harder. The harder you swing, the farther the ball goes. See how easy it is? Chicks really dig the long ball, Al.” (ESPN)
