I’m glad it has come out how Magic Johnson knew Isiah Thomas was spreading rumors in 1992 about how Magic contracted HIV because he was gay. Whether Johnson is gay or not is irrelevant. You don’t go telling tales out of school about someone who is supposed to be your friend.
I have long thought it all started to go bad for Isiah when he slunk off the court after getting swept by the Bulls in the 1991 Eastern Conference Finals. People started to wake up to the fact that he is a childish jackass. And don’t get me wrong, as a kid, I worshipped Isiah. Around 1982, he moved his mother into my hometown, and a couple of friends and I were the first ones to welcome his family. I went to grade school with his niece and nephews. I held the net he cut down when Indiana won the national championship. Heck, I even played a few pickup games with him at our local park, for god’s sake.
But when you mess with the Bulls, you get the horns. (that was kind of a long way to go to get to the Breakfast Club reference, huh?) (SI)
