Chicago QB Jay Cutler opened up on the radio today about the struggling Bears offense and if you listen between the lines, you might come away with the impression that he isn’t quite satisfied with the system he’s in.
“A lot of people think I’m wishing the worst for the Broncos and Josh McDaniels. I don’t,” Cutler said. “I watched the game last night. I have friends on that team. I talked to some of them afterwards and congratulated them. They’re playing really good football. I’m happy for those guys offensively, defensively.
“This league is funny. It’s all about timing,” he said. “You could be one of the best players in the league but if you’re not in the right system, you don’t have the right people around you, there’re a lot of different aspects that go into making a player or breaking a player. It’s working for Kyle. (Orton) It’s working for Josh, and it’s working for the Broncos. They’ve got a good thing going.”
First of all, suuuure he doesn’t wish the worst for Josh McDaniels. Just because some PR flak got a hold of him and told him to chill on his natural tendency towards childishness, doesn’t mean the world has forgotten. Now that Cutler is in a giant media market and sees lesser known teammates raking in nice endorsement deals, he probably thinks he deserves a piece of that pie.
But note also how he repeatedly hits on the negatives “not in the right system”, “don’t have the right people around you”… So, did Orton “not” have the right people around him in Chicago, or did Cutler “not” have the right people around him in Denver? Or did Cutler really just admit he doesn’t believe he has the right people around him in Chicago?
Knowing what we know of Cutler, the answer seems obvious. (espn)
