Well, perhaps ‘hate’ is too strong a word, but it makes for a nice headline.
In an article on espn.com today by probably the greatest sports columnist in America, Rick Reilly interviews McCoy about his relationship with the other two superstar QB’s in college football right now.
About his association with Sam Bradford, who the Longhorns will defeat this Saturday in the Red River Rivalry, McCoy says:
“Me and Sam are buddies. We keep in touch all the time.”
First of all, HUH? The Texas QB and the OU QB are “buddies”? That’s sickening. It’s kinda like Rush Limbaugh and Keith Olbermann getting together for high tea. Should never happen. It isn’t nearly as much fun for us fans when the best players of perhaps the biggest rivalry in American sports (that’s right, I said it) are actual friends. The players should not only despise each other, their families should hate each other. Their grandparents should be holding daily press conferences and talking smack.
But McCoy saves his real animosity for Florida’s mythological, all-world superhero. When asked if he has a similar connection with Tebow, McCoy says flatly:
“Uh, no.”
There it is! Wow. McCoy really knows how to throw down some bulletin board material for the BCS Championship Game this coming January. He better watch his knees. The only thing that could be worse is if he called Tebow a ‘decent guy’. They simply won’t stand for talk like that in Gainsville.
Red River Rivalry prediction: Texas – 38; OU – 20
Book it.
