Why, exactly? This is a picture of ‘World Bowl XV’, where the stands are about 30% full. Granted, this was in Frankfurt, but if you can’t even sell out the championship game for NFL Europe, what makes you think an anti-American town like London can support several games per year? (Note: I have no friggin’ idea if London is anti-American, but it doesn’t seem too farfetched)
I suppose Roger Goodell thinks bigger names and a higher level of play will sell out Wembley time and again, but I contend they already have a pretty popular game they call football. You know, the game where players actually use only their feet. The most popular team sport on planet Earth. Yeah, that one. But Goodell probably sees himself as a David Stern type who will be lauded 50 years from now for taking the league ‘global’, so it doesn’t matter how poorly these games may potentially do. He has the money and the power to expand the NFL as he sees fit, and damn you to Jacksonville if you don’t agree. (SI.com)
