No, really.
John Kelso of the Austin American-Statesman comments on the Titans (and legendary Texas Longhorns) QB’s new line of smoked sausage, smoked brisket and smoked ribs from the aptly named Vince Young Foods being sold at the Austin Wal-Mart and Longhorn Meat Market. (natch)
“What he wanted to do was get into a business while he was playing,” said Major Adams, Vince’s agent. “He’s looking out for his future now, because he knows the NFL is not for long. He’s trying to prepare himself for life after football.”
First of all…how many people in Texas are named ‘Major’…like, 1 in 3? Second…the meat game is pretty competitive in the Lone Star State. You could be Sam Houston himself and if your product sucks…it ain’t getting bought, pardner.
But wait, Vince’s recipe is an old family secret…
Adams says that the recipe came from Vince’s Uncle Keith, who lives in Houston and is a self-proclaimed sausage nut. “He hasn't made it for sale before, but he makes his own sausage,” Adams said. He adds they used Uncle Keith’s recipe “but they added stuff to it.” Like ‘beef hearts’.
Sounds yummy. But one more thing…smoked ribs are way overrated. They are usually tough as football leather, and buying pre-smoked ribs is a culinary nightmare waiting to happen.
If only there were a joke there somewhere about Vince & sausage…
