Yesterday on the insufferable ‘2 Live Stews’ radio show, Dallas Cowboys HOF QB Troy Aikman tossed a hypocritical shot or two at new Jets QB Brett Favre.
“This has been going on for over a decade. Going into ‘96, the Super Bowl that he won. He talked about it prior to that game that if he won that Super Bowl he may in fact retire. And since that time it’s been twelve years now that we’ve talking about whether or not Brett’s going to retire. (Aaron Rodgers) has been there all of season, they drafted him in the first round, they told him that he was going to be a starter this year. And I think you risk losing him for the rest of his career, however short that maybe with Packers, to get one more season out of Brett Favre. Do you go on to win the Super Bowl? Well maybe you do, but they could very easily go 4 and 12 as well.”
OK, first of all, while all this ‘Baby Favra Drama’ (that’s a new one…feel free to ignore it) has been going on for a while…but not 12 fucking years. 4 years, tops. Still, too long mind you. But not 12 years.
Second, who the hell is Troy Aikman to cast aspersions on someone who waffles between playing and retirement? Around early August for at least three years after Aikman retired, there were constant reports of him un-retiring to join one team or another.
Granted, he did stay retired…but he entertained offers, and if one would have blown him away…he’d have broken off that bromance with Joe Buck so quick it would have made his jaw ache.
We think Troy’s just a wee bit jealous he didn’t stick around a little longer, which certainly would have been much welcomed. Who wouldn’t have wanted to see an old, toothless Troy Aikman get his ass handed to him by the Cardinals?
