Have you noticed how many Olympic gold medal winners have their pictures taken biting down as if they’re mock testing whether the medal is real gold or not.
Well, it’s not.
According to the Olympic Charter, the gold and silver medals must each be made of at least 92.5 percent pure silver and the gold medal must be gilded with at least six grams of gold.
Six measly grams of gold plating? That’s not very much. There’s probably more ‘gold’ in the cheesy high school ring you left in your old top dresser drawer at your parent’s house.
