ESPN’s Ed Werder is reporting that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has reinstated Brett Favre and that Favre will arrive in Green Bay at approximately 5pm Central time on Sunday evening.
So, now it’s the Packers move in this all-too-public checkers match.
Favre won’t accept a $25M buyout offer from the Packers to stay retired and apparently won’t accept a trade to anyone but the Vikings…so he’s showing up at training camp in an overt attempt to embarrass Green Bay into releasing him.
Brett Favre, and his ‘people’ are forcing the Packers to make the ultimate decision. He is virtually demanding they pay him his full salary and send him home. Favre obviously wants his longtime employers to ‘Keyshawn’ him. Since the Packers are $30M under the salary cap for 2008, they can easily, though not happily, absorb his $12M contract while he sits in Kiln collecting checks, drinking beer and snorting Vicodin.
He simply cannot, we repeat cannot, be allowed on the 2008 Green Bay Packers roster. Can you imagine the first time Aaron Rodgers makes a bad pass…or heaven forbid…an interception at Lambeau Field with #4 sitting on the sidelines? Rodgers seems like he has a thickish skin…but even he would break down like a baby at the abuse sure to be heaped upon his confused melon.
If Brett Favre were a real man, he’d just stay retired and live the rest of his troubled life in relative seclusion. Although, who among us now doesn’t expect Favre’s desperate need for attention to lead him down a dark path in the coming years?
