Now that Tampa Bay has lost a couple of big players to injury, we’ve been hearing that the upstart Rays might be willing to sell their young souls to stay on top of the AL East by signing Clubhouse Cancer legend and federal perjury indictee, Barry Lamar Bonds.
Normally, these rumors are immediately dispelled by the proposed team’s management, but not only have the Rays been eerily silent regarding the reports…but Bonds’ former GM Brian Sabean is fueling the fire with comments in support of the potential acquisition.
“I certainly think if he DH’d for somebody, even at this late juncture in the season…it doesn’t take much for him to get ready, we all saw that in spring training, after 10 at-bats he’d get bored. I think it would be smart for Tampa Bay because they are in a very unique position…as history goes, with baseball with a chance to win that division against those two counterparts is pretty amazing.”
We’re conflicted by this situation, because on one hand…we’d love to see a vile racist like Bonds come back and fail miserably…but on the other hand we’d like the Rays to win the division and keep Boston out of the postseason. (they have had more than enough happiness in Beantown for a while…let them go back to suffering) But let’s face it, that’s not likely to happen because whoever finishes 2nd in the AL East will probably win the Wild Card.
Hopefully the Rays will just move on with life and make the playoffs the honorable way…Barry Bonds-free.
