UPDATE: Bonds’ record breaking ball now HOF bound.
After overwhelming backlash from the sports blogosphere earlier today, some designer dude named Marc Ecko relented his bullshit stance and donated…not loaned…Barry Bonds 756th now asterisked home run ball to the baseball HOF.
“The owner’s previous commitment to unconditionally donate the baseball has changed to a loan. As a result, the Hall of Fame will not be able to accept the baseball,” HOF spokesman Brad Horn said late Tuesday.
Ecko couldn’t quite admit he was shamed into doing the right thing, however.
“I am surprised that the Hall issued a statement that said they would no longer accept the Barry Bonds' 756th home run baseball. We had been in communication with them just this morning and the Hall did not mention that they would change their position and no longer accept the ball,” he said.
“Based on the Hall of Fame’s previous statements that they would both accept and display the ball, the only open issue we were talking about was the Hall’s recent indication of discomfort in displaying it and addressing the controversy surrounding the record.”
First of all…bullshit.
Please read the quote, “the Hall’s recent indication of discomfort in displaying it and addressing the controversy surrounding the record,” as correctly meaning…they just didn’t want to include the name of some asshole with too much money in the historic display.
Who can blame the HOF for not wanting to include an undeserving Marc Ecko (whoever the hell that is) and his opinion in the HALL OF FUCKING FAME.
This princess Ecko seems to be an attention-whore dickweed of unparalleled proportions.
