With all this talk about Brett Favre possibly going to a team like the Vikings or the Bears…teams he has spent a lifetime destroying…let’s remember some other drastic, ‘I-can’t-hang-em-up’ moments.
#5. – OJ Simpson as a San Francisco 49er
Orenthal James is from the Bay Area, and the lure of earning a paycheck so close to where he grew up learning to kill was simply irresistible.
#4. – Tony Dorsett with the Denver Broncos
Dumped by the pre-Jonesian regime in ‘Big D’, Dorsett tried to become the RB a talented young John Elway desperately needed, but blew out his knee and blew off the rest of his career.
#3. – Joe Namath as a Los Angeles Ram
‘Broadway Joe’ thought he could become ‘Hollywood Joe’, but alas the knees, arm and sobriety all betrayed him.
#2. – Johnny Unitas, San Diego Chargers
Johnny U. is a Baltimore Colt. Period. On a happier note, his old man sinuses did clear up in the clean, dry San Diego air.
#1. – Michael Jordan as a Washington Wizard.
We couldn’t even watch this horrific spectacle after 15 years of truly dedicated hero worship. This remains the second worst moment in sports history…only slightly trailing the 1919 ‘Black Sox’. Sickening. Revolting.
