Reigning American League MVP, and MLB’s highest paid player Alex Rodriguez will not be participating again in this year’s Home Run Derby because he believes it can ‘damage his swing’.
“I try to stay away from that,” Rodriguez said, according to the Daily News. “My responsibility is to the New York Yankees. I need my swing to be at its best.”
Fair enough. He needs look no further than his own clubhouse to see what trying to win the Home Run Derby did to the swing of his current teammate Bobby Abreu.
Plus, when he asked permission, Madonna said no.
