The NBA Finals are here, so it must be time to dredge up years’ old quotes one superstar made about another, you know, for the reaction.
Since we certainly aren’t above such tripe, here’s what Ray Allen had to say about Kobe Bryant in 2004 to Seattle sportswriters in the wake of Shaq going to Miami:
“If Kobe doesn’t see he needs 2 good players to be a legitimate playoff contender or win a championship in about a year or two, he’ll be calling out to (Lakers owner) Jerry Buss that, ‘We need some help in here,’ or, ‘Trade me.’ And we’ll all be saying, ‘I told you so,’ when he says that.”
Ray-Ray added that Bryant is “going to be very selfish. And he feels like he needs to show this league and the people in this country that he is better without Shaq. He can win championships without Shaq. So offensively, he’s going to jump out and say, ‘I can average 30 points. I can still carry the load on this team.’ ”
Umm…Isn’t that pretty much exactly what happened?
When Ray Allen ends his basketball career, just to ‘clear his head’, he’s gonna hustle tourists as one of those ‘Guess Your Weight’ guys down by the Santa Monica Pier.
