Clubhouse Cancer has confirmed with multiple unnamed sources inside the Chicago Bulls organization, that GM John Paxson’s as yet unidentified candidate is none other than the Pistons’ semi-current head coach, Flip Saunders.
Pax wants one big-name interview before he hands the reins to his former coach, TNT analyst Doug Collins. Saunders was thought to be on Paxson’s short list when the process of searching for a new coach began.
Collins knows the job is pretty much his, though.
Paxson, and indeed the entire basketball community, was stunned when Collins reached out to the Bulls about the vacancy. Collins had been telling friends just two days prior to word of his impending hiring that he was not interested in coaching again.
The Bulls’ GM doesn’t want to be accused of jumping at Collins just because he expressed interest, so Pax will wait until after Saunders is fired, probably Tuesday, before contacting Flip about the position.
This is simply for appearances. As we reported earlier, the job is Collins’.
