Not many of us can say we were yelled at in the Yankees dugout by Billy Martin. (we here at Clubhouse Cancer can say were once yelled at by a grumpy old Bob Feller, but that’s a horse of a completely different color)
However, not only was Junior yelled at by Billy Martin as a kid when his old man played for the legendary New York firebrand skipper, but he once said that he would never play for the Yankees because of it.
“My favorite Yankee Stadium memory?” the Reds slugger said last night. “It’s leaving Yankee Stadium.”
How awesome is that?
“The Reds haven’t been here in 30 years,” he said before the Reds' 4-2 victory last night. “For us it’s a road trip we have to make, not something to look forward to.”
Nice. Umm…we might want to rethink those ‘Junior to the Bronx’ rumors we’ve been hearing. It’s a good thing the Yankee faithful still don’t know that it was Junior who tampered with the brakes on Thurman Munson’s plane. (Still too soon for that one?)
