For a guy who played the game with Hall of Fame talent, guts and smarts, Gary Carter is saying and doing some really stupid things.
Talking to the L.A. Times about not getting a chance to manage in the big leagues, Carter took a big and completely unnecessary shot at Joe Girardi and the Steinbrenner family. "[The] pictures Joe Girardi must have on Steinbrenner," said Carter, who is managing in a California independent league, literally the lowest level of professional sports.
He has to help the grounds crew put the tarp on the field for christ’s sake, that’s how far removed he is from Yankee Stadium. He probably has one or two of his players crashing in sleeping bags at his apartment, and they don’t quite set out a lavish pre-game meal at that level…greasy, cold pizza is an opulent luxury.
Bashing management of the two New York behemoths while jockeying for a head coaching position is probably the dumbest thing you can do in baseball.
We can’t wait for the requisite ‘taken-out-of-context’ response from Carter.
Gary Carter is quickly becoming a major league laughingstock and big-time Clubhouse Cancer…hey, would we ‘kid’ you?
