It seems the Lakers and Timberwolves were all lined up for a blockbuster last summer that would have sent Kevin Garnett to L.A. and Lamar Odom, Kwame Brown, and Andrew Bynum to Minnesota. Supposedly, it only needed to be signed off on by Minnesota owner Glen Taylor.
Buuuut just about then Kobe Bean Bryant began spouting off. His verbal assassinations of owner Jerry Buss and especially Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak, scared off Garnett, who was frantically trying to escape from just that kind of ‘mismanagement.’
Seems to have worked out well for all involved. Well, except for the T-Wolves, of course…but that’s to be expected.
McHale sure would have made ‘ol Red proud the way he helped his best friend Danny Ainge build the Celtics and get them to where they are now…up 1-0 to the Lakers in the NBA Finals.
