New York manager Joe Girardi woke up his last-place ballclub with an umpire-cursin’, hat-kickin’, out-of-his-mind tirade of which Yankee legend Billy Martin would have been proud.
The suddenly inspired Yankees came back to win the game on a Robinson Cano hit in the bottom of the 9th.
It’s weird how stupid ballplayers are.
The scene is reminiscent of 2007 when new Cubs manager Lou Piniella threw a similar hat-kickin’ tantrum which definitely spurred the then lethargic Cubs, who went on to win the NL Central division.
